Mobile Application delivery and marketing (how to get your mobile App into the android marketplace and Apple App Store) a focus on project management and marketing
With the advent of the Google Android ® powered smart phones, the mobile world will never be the same. Stiff competition between iOS ® powered iPhones from Apple and Google Android ® powered smart phones have emerged.
With the power of Google backing it one can always expect a global reach in terms of usability and the features for the Android ® powered phones. However, Google has had a perennial problem about App selling in its Android Market. Historically it always had poor sales compared to Apple App Store. While Apple iPhone users have been using in-App payments since October 2009 Android developers had to depend on the age old PayPal system to process payments. However, with the advent of numerous changes including the in-App payment system this is going to change. Hopefully by Christmas of 2011 both the Android and the iOS platforms will see a more equal fight for supremacy with each trying to outdo the other.
If you are an App developer your best chances of getting decent sales would be Apple App store. With better features, search and navigation the Apple App store is one option that would make shopping a whole lot of fun for average users. Having been beaten for several years now by App Store, the Android Market has now come back with a lot of improvements.
Publishing on the Android Market
For uploading your App developed for the Android Market, all you need to do is to follow the instruction sets that have been posted on the developer’ section on Google Android. The result will be an .apk file. In order to publish your App to Android market, you will have to first register yourself using your Google account. Once the registration is complete, one can sign in to upload his App to the Android market and publish it. Users can access the android market, check your App, and download it to use and rate it.
In order to publish an App the same needs to be signed using a cryptographic private key which needs to have a validity date afterOctober 22, 2033. The App must have the <manifest> element attributes cleanly mentioned i.e., the android:version Code and an android:version Name. It is also required that you mention the android:icon and an android:label attribute in the <Application> element of the manifest file.
Publishing on the Apple App Store
The iPhone developer kit is available for a registration and membership free payment. Choose a $99 membership plan for a year ad download the SDK. After having tested the codes which you will write inCocoa, you can test the same using your iPhone device and confirm that it is working fine. Just plug the divide on to your Mac; open xcode and open the iPhone App. Now set the active SDK to be the iPhone device and the App will get installed on to your iPhone. After the testing, proceed to submit the App to Apple App Store. They will ask for a title for the App, a category where the App will be hosted, license type whether free or paid, price, description and a thumbnail. Apple observes a set of testing and review procedures for all its App submissions. Once the App is accepted it will be hosted on the Apple store and be available for download throughout the world.
